The Black Russian is obviously named for the black depth in colour of the Coffee Liqueur and the fact that Vodka is Russian. It is believed to have been created in 1949 by Gustave Tops at the Hotel Metropole in Brussels.

Ingredients

  • 1.25 oz. 38ml Vodka
  • 0.75 oz. 23ml Coffee Liqueur
Display: oz. ml.

Instructions

Stir all ingredients in an ice-filled mixing glass and strain to a chilled rocks glass with ice.

The drink was made as a tribute to Peale Mesta, the United States ambassador to Luxembourg at the time.
