The famed sambuca Opal Nera is being relaunched across all markets with a new bottle design that has a ‘secret twist’

The striking new bottle comes with a unique code for consumers to crack. Playing on its mysterious point of difference, a code lies beneath the logo. It also sits on the bottleneck, which consumers can decipher using a sequence of letters and numbers that appear on the rim, revealing the words ‘dark secret’.

The new Opal Nera bottle design at first glance looks like black frosted glass, but upon pouring, a purple colour that matches the liquid is revealed with a vibrant purple hue.

Nothing changes with the liquid itself – a blend of spices including star anise and green aniseed, orange blossom, coriander, cinnamon, cloves, and lemons from Sicily. While the black spices provide its complexity, it’s elderberries that provide its unique purple hue.

Sipsmith Adds Chilli & Lime Gin

Sipsmith has created the “constantly evolving” Sipping Series of small-batch gins, with the first of these ‘experimental’ gins being Chilli & Lime Gin.

Available online from Sipsmith and through retailers in the UK including Tesco and Waitrose, the chilli and lime-flavoured gin is said to be “ideal for gin lovers on the lookout for the latest flavour to try and perfect for the daring sipper”.

Created by created by the brand’s head of ginovation, Ciarán Russell, the gin comes in at 40%ABV  and is recommended served with tonic water, ice and a lime wedge, or as a twist in cocktails including Margaritas and Mojitos.

Havana Club Release Their 2020 Tributo Rum

Havana Club has unveiled its Tributo 2020 bottling, which marks the fifth anniversary of the limited edition rum collection.

Only 2,500 bottles of Havana Club Tributo 2020 will be released globally. The collection was created to celebrate the “unrivalled excellence” of Cuban rum.

To create the 2020 bottling, Asbel Morales, master of Cuban rum, hand-picked a small quantity of rum reserves from previous Tributo releases, which had been kept and further matured.

Morales then blended them with a rum taken from a batch of 100 exclusive casks that have never been made available commercially.

The final 40% Abv rum is said to have an “intense and rich hint of smoke”, influenced by the Tributo 2018 release, as well as notes of dark chocolate, coffee and spice.

Jose Cuervo Finishes Tequila In Irish Whiskey Barrels

Tequila brand Jose Cuervo has expanded its Tradicional portfolio with the addition of an añejo expression that was finished in Irish single malt whiskey barrels.

Made from 100% Blue Weber agave, Jose Cuervo Tradicional Añejo is the first añejo in the Tradicional series.

The Tequila was matured for more than 12 months in new American oak barrels before spending four months in Irish single malt whiskey barrels from the world’s oldest licensed whiskey distillery.

Tasting notes include cooked agave, toasted nuts and vanilla, leading to stewed figs, cinnamon baking spice and caramel.

Blackwell's Jamaican Rum Release 007 Expression

Island Records founder Chris Blackwell’s Blackwell Fine Jamaican Rum has teamed up with the 007 franchise for a special expression celebrating the release of the 25th James Bond adventure, No Time To Die.

While the rum is on shelves this week, it was originally intended to intersect with the opening of the film, which not only takes place in Jamaica but was also mainly shot there.

The film, which has had its release delayed until November, is Daniel Craig’s much-talked-about final outing as the legendary gentleman spy based on the novels of Ian Fleming.

For the 007 limited-edition, Blackwell has worked with famous Jamaican distillers J. Wray and Nephew.
