Celebrate Cinco de Mayo with Fever-Tree

Fever-Tree release their new Sparkling Pink Grapefruit to help you make the perfect Paloma cocktail to celebrate Cinco de Mayo.

If your like 90% of the population, your first instinct on Cinco de Mayo is to make a Margarita and why not, you really can’t go wrong with the fresh, crisp flavour and nice tart kick. But really, if you’re going to celebrate an obscure war from 1862, you can do it with anything Tequila-based.

And this is what Fever-tree had in mind with the release of their new Sparkling Pink Grapefruit Soda. Known for their desire to have us all mixing up ‘sensational simple serves’, the global mixer company have created the Grapefruit Soda to compliment not only Tequila but also Vodka, while capturing the essence of easy-to-make Palomas and Spritzes.

So why should you ditch the Margarita for a Paloma? Well the answer is simple. Basically the combination of grapefruit and tequila is just more interesting.

Sometimes called the lazy mans Margarita, Paloma is the Spanish word for dove and although the drinks origins are unknown (as is the case with most spirit and soda highballs), it is reputed to date all the way to the 1950s (although written references in cocktail books appear much later).

Now we’ve included Fever-Tree’s recipe for their sparkling Paloma below and nothing could be simpler (although we would add a little salt around the rim, just for good measure). But there are a variety of different ways that you can dress up this basic recipe.

Steep a little Jalapeño into your Agave Syrup, swap out tequila for Mezcal or even add a few unexpected but super tasty liqueurs to the mix like Campari or even Madori.

With a good quality grapefruit Soda like Fever-tree, the possibilities are endless. The Fever-Tree Sparkling Pink Grapefruit contains no artificial colours or artificial sweeteners. Made with naturally sourced ingredients, including fruit sugars, a 6.8 fl. oz. bottle has only 30 calories.

On the nose, Fever-Tree Sparkling Pink Grapefruit has an impressive upfront burst of fresh grapefruit, carefully balanced with soft pink grapefruit floral aromatic notes. Fever-Tree uses naturally sourced ingredients to achieve the perfectly balanced, bitter-yet-sweet flavour with fresh and floral notes, showcasing the very best that the pink grapefruit has to offer.

Perfect levels of carbonation and a recipe which includes real juice content provide a peerless rounded base to complement the best premium tequilas, mezcals, vodkas and more

To create Fever-Tree Sparkling Pink Grapefruit, the company identified the ideal foundation: pink grapefruits from Florida. These are known worldwide as a representation of the perfect pink grapefruit. The state’s copious amounts of year-round sun combine harmoniously with optimal amounts of precipitation and the best soil for irrigation, allowing grapefruits grown in this region to develop the gold standard bitter-to-sweet ratio

The Sparkling Pink Grapefruit is available across the US from retailers such as Amazon, ReserveBar, Target, Total Wine, and grocers, such as Publix.
