Snoop Dog Smashes World Record For Largest Gin & Juice

If you think your free pouring is a little enthusiastic, then have a thought for Snoop Dogg who over the weekend made a World Record sized Gin & Juice.

With the help of longtime friend, rapper Warren G, and Top Chef champ Michael Voltaggio, Snoop Dogg created the cocktail in the normally wine filled Napa Valley during the BottleRock Festival.

Now you might remember nearly 25 years ago, the song “Gin And Juice” was the second single on his debut album, 1993’s Doggiestyle.

Well, he certainly paid homage to that song and mixed up the largest gin and juice ever made: some 132 gallons. The larger-than-life cocktail was appropriately topped off with a pink umbrella,  a giant straw and a garnish of pineapple and melon on a sword.

The giant gin and juice used 38 jugs of orange juice, 154 bottle of apricot brandy and a whopping 180 bottles of gin, according to Guinness. Snoop celebrated his record breaking drink on Instagram with a picture of himself holding the world record certificate.

The idea for this headline-grabbing record attempt was generated in efforts to create a memorable event for festival goers. In previous years line-ups have included performances from Bruno Mars, Billy Idol, The Killers, alongside world renowned chefs.

Although the 8,000-strong crowd pleaded to taste the cocktail, it was reserved for the VIP section where it was distributed to fortunate backstage revellers.

Now as you might be able to tell from the ingredients, the record was actually for the largest Paradise Cocktail. The Paradise Cocktail is one of the lesser know classic cocktail to be found in Harry Craddock’s 1930s The Savoy Cocktail Book. And it is, as you might expect, fairly sweet and fairly fruity.

If  you want to make a (smaller, we hope) Paradise Cocktail yourself, we recommend that you don’t necessarily keep to the original recipe. Sure creating a drink from equal parts Gin, Apricot Brandy and Orange Juice sounds easy to do but it certainly doesn’t taste like it should. We instead would steer you towards David Wondrich’s take as he outlines in Esquire

Ingredients
2 ounces gin — London dry gin
1 1/2 teaspoons brandy — apricot brandy
1 ounce orange juice
1/2 ounce lemon juice

Instructions: Shake well with cracked ice, then strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
