Taste Some Indie Spirits In Brisbane This weekend

Explore some hard to find spirits brands this weekend – your home bar will thank you!

By: Tiff Christie|May 25,2018

Have you ever had one of those moments, when you are unsure about which brand of spirits to buy? You are standing in front of shelves of Gin (for example) and you’d like to buy that new Aussie Gin that everyone is raving about, but the doubts start creeping in. What if it’s not as good as everyone says? What if its just that little bit too herbaceous for your tastes? Do I really have to buy the whole bottle to know if I even like it?

Wouldn’t it be perfect if there was an event where you can taste a few local Gins, International Gins, maybe even a few Rums and Tequilas, to get a better idea of what you’s like to buy for your home bar. Well, if you’re in Brisbane this weekend, do we have the event for you.

The Indie Spirits Tasting event has over 30 exhibitors, showcasing more than 100 craft spirits from both local and international distilleries. Back for its third year at Lefty’s Old Time Music Hall, the event, not only allows you to taste a variety of craft spirits but also gives you the chance to chat with master distillers and sit in on free seminars that take you on a deep dive into the world of indie spirits.

The event, which is also staged in both Sydney, Perth and Melbourne, will also feature live music, a signature Lefty’s hotdog and the chance to score some bargains from exhibitors who are offering often hard to find brands for sale directly from their tables. Trust us, your home bar will thank you.

Largest ever showcase of Aussie craft spirit brands

Don’t let anyone tell you that Aussie distilleries don’t turn out some of the worlds best spirits. There are some small distilleries creating some truly amazing spirits in our very own backyard. The Indie Spirits Tasting events are right behind local distilleries, with  this year’s Brisbane event marking the largest ever showcase of Australian craft spirits under one roof. There are a whopping 29 brands by local makers who will have their wares on show from all corners of the country.

We have Kalki Moon from Bundaberg in Queensland, Illegal Tender Rums from WA and Lawrenny Distilling from Tasmania all making their debut at Indie Spirits Tasting Brisbane. Additionally there are favourite brands like Applewood Distillery SA, Marionette VIC, Melbourne Moonshine VIC, Never Never Distilling Co SA & Prohibition Liquor Co. SA, to name a few.

30+ International Indie Spirits Also On Show

While the Indie Spirits Tasting events has built up a reputation for showcasing new Aussie brands, they also have an equally number of hard-to-find international products on show as well.  No matter what spirit category you are keen to explore,  you will find boutique brands from around the world – Rums from Venezuela, an Indian single malt Whisky, a fig Liqueur, Amaro, Tequilas, Mezcals, American Whiskeys and more.
Some of the brands on show include Amaro Montenegro, Montelobos Mezcal, Dulce Vida Tequila, Death’s Door Spirits & Ocho Tequila. This year they have also assembled a nice collection of international Rums, including Santa Teresa Rum, Nusa Cana Rum, Clement Rhum & Plantation Rum.

Indie Spirits Tasting is on this Sunday, May 27,  from 1pm till 4pm . Tickets are just $55 (plus booking fee) and include access to all spirit samples, live music, a signature Lefty’s burger & fries and spirited seminars.
